Looking back & Looking forward

Hey friends. Here is this week's installment of Looking back & looking forward....

We just finished studying 1 John 2:18-27 where we discovered 3 important truths: 1. Be alert that there are false teaches & false Christians all around us, even in our churches & amongst our friends. 2. Be aware of the differences between those who are against Christ & those who follow Christ. Those who follow Christ have the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the proof that we belong to Jesus & it is the reason why we can understand God's Word and overcome sin. 3. Be assured that because of the Spirit you actually have a relationship with Jesus.

Next week we will look at 3 reminders from God through John. 1. The reminder to continue in your relationship with Jesus. 2. The reminder of the hope we have in Christ. 3. The reminder of what a follower of Jesus looks like. Remember to read through this section and ask God to help you understand his Word.

Looking back & Looking forward

To all the Ignite peeps on the world wide web, here is this week's version of looking back & looking forward.

Looking back: This past week we looked at the truth that we are living in a time where Christ could come back. Because of Christ's death & resurrection, we know that he could come at any moment. We also looked at the truth that the antichrist is coming and even now many who are opposed to Christ have come. These are false teachers and followers of Jesus who are in our churches who claim Jesus, but really deny Him with their lives. We studies in verses 20-21 that those who truly know Jesus are those who have the Holy Spirit. The role of the Spirit is to glorify God, help us understand His truth & enable us to understand His Word.

Looking forward: Our plan next week is to finish up verses 22-27 of 1 John 2. It is where we will continue our look at the differences between a true follower of Jesus & a false one. We will then look at the assurance of who we are & what we have in Jesus. Please be praying that God would open up our hearts to understand His Word & enable us to change.

Looking back & Looking forward

Good morning friends. I assume that you are all in school enjoying your classes. I just wanted to remind you Jr. High peeps to sign up and come to Broomball. It is this Friday and it is so fun. To all peeps: Be looking for your calendars... They should be in the mail by the end of this week. Here is this week's version of looking back & looking forward..

Looking Back: Last week we talked about what it means to love the world. It means we treasure the things of this world and what is stands for i.e. the desires of our flesh, eyes and taking pride in who we are and what we have more than we treasure the Savior.
Those things like popularity, money, sex, friends, yourself, good grades, gossip, bitterness, anger, etc. are things of the world and they dishonor God. On top of that, they don't last. Only doing God's will i.e. trusting in Him, obeying Him will last. Because of this, we need to be careful to not get caught up into the temptations of this world and what it has to offer.

Looking Forward: This coming Sunday we are going to look at 1 John 2:18-27 where God is going to warn us about antichrists i.e. those who claim they know & love Jesus, but really don't. We will also look at the differences between those who do love Jesus and those who only claim to. We will finish things off by looking at the confirmation of those who know Jesus. They are people who have eternal life and they continue to remain if fellowship with Jesus.

Please be praying that God will open up our hearts to hear & respond to His Word both at Ignite & Ignition. Have a great week.

Looking back & Looking forward

To all my Ignite friends out there:

I hope you enjoyed your extended weekend. I certainly know I did. I just wanted to remind you peeps of two things:

1. Remember to read 1 John 2:15-17 and be in prayer about what God will teach us this Sunday. Last week we looked at the 2 stages of maturity for a follower of Jesus... the new believer or spiritually immature, the maturing believer & the mature believer. We also looked at the truth that all of us have been forgiven of our sin because of Jesus. He is now our Dad and we know Him. Because of this, we have victory over sin & Satan. This coming Sunday we will look at the 3 temptations of the world and its system... 1. Fleshly desires, desires of our eyes & pride in who we are and what we have!

2. Sign up for Bowl N Out if you are a HS students and Broomball if you are a JH student.
